Glad you share our enthusiasm on the project.
Here are some things you have to keep in mind though.
Dimp Preview is, as the name suggests, simply a Preview of what's to come. This means that you get limited features, such as:
1 un-alterable Framework-man.
No Backgrounds.
No tools to enable additional items.
With that in mind, the Preview has been released simply to give you a feel of how animating with joints and frameworks will work with Dimp and on the Mac, to let you familiarize yourself with some of the features that will not change [much, for now] in Dimp (such as the way "frames" are replaced", and finally to give you a taste of our approach to the task.
I hope you enjoy yourself and are able to find amusement for now with the simplified Preview.
The Public Preview is in a sense a public Beta, and any additional and really useful tips, bug-discoveries or such will be greatly appreciated!

well i cant convert DIMP files to anything else, 
Dimp Preview has only just been released and therefore I can't imagine you being able to. Sijmen stated that there would be not video-exporting abilities yet, so you'll have to wait.
For now, screen-record your Mac if you'd like to show us some of your work! Or you could send it to Sijmen?

Yes the preview is a bit of an island when it comes to file formats. Sorry for that.
So you find the experience to be simpler then you thought?
Dimp uses a special technique that turns two frames into a smooth animation.
I'm no expert so I'll let Sijmen talk you through this one?

it is pretty good . although i do wish the real version was out so i could do animation, i cant do any long animations at all

It's just one of the things I couldn't finish in time, but you CAN make long animations.
You can drag the thin divider line between the timeline and the canvas up. The timeline will then become smaller in height and you'll see more frames at once.
I'll add a scrollbar asap.

dude i like how it fills in keyframes for u.
That was designed such that you only see the keyframes up to the point where you've actually done something, so your timeline doesn't get cluttered with unnecessary keyframes.
As Sijmen said, if you want to "extend" the timeline, drag the grey line-divider upwards in order to minimize the already-present keyframes and make room for many more.
A feature I'm sure Dimp 1.0 will have is a scroll-bar so you can see past what you're doing, because the current system (on a large monitor) may only allow 1 minute of playtime? I'm not sure, I haven't tested it well yet.

It has already got some brilliant features in it! No more finding old PC's and using pivot!
Keyframes and customizable grid lines are brilliant. Top marks :D It can already create nice motion animations, as shown in my avatar :)
I'm glad you find Dimp to be an alternative to Pivot. There are big plans for Dimp and I hope you'll remain to see them achieved.
