Topic: Making custom Grids on Dimp.

When working with Dimp, and especially with the Preview (for lack of custom backgrounds), it's frequently really useful to create a custom Grid. This helps define a start-point for an animation, or an unchangeable concept, such as a floor.

Here's how it's done:

  1. Select the Grid icon (selected in blue on the image).

  2. A new border will appear around your canvas.

  3. Within the border, you can now simply click to add Horizontal or Vertical lines.

  4. Selecting the icon once more will remove the border but maintain the lines.

Note: In order to remove a line, simply select the Grid icon to activate the border and then select along the border to create a line in the exact same location as the line you would like to delete in order to "erase" it.

Hope that helps!

Re: Making custom Grids on Dimp.

Just as a note, these guidelines are not yet saved with the animation.

Re: Making custom Grids on Dimp.

No, I hadn't thought of that as a problem, but thanks for the heads up!
This won't be much of a problem because you'll work around the "guidelines", and usually set them from one of your first positions. Therefore you can simply go to the start of your animation and reset them.

Re: Making custom Grids on Dimp.

Wouldn't it be cool if you could set up guidelines in the timeline, too?

Explain! big_smile

Re: Making custom Grids on Dimp.

Just like right now in the canvas. You can set guidelines there. What if a gutter would appear in the timeline too? Then you can mark important points in your animation.

Ah. Surely not a priority though? smile

Oh man this screenshot is almost nostalgic now.
