Re: Dimpleton on windows?

The problem is that the Mac and PC have different cores. For one, the Mac is a Unix system, this mainly means from a developing perspective, you're using Cocoa writing in Objective-C, which is a much more intuitive and nicer platform to program on. But this is entirely different for the PC, meaning that programs for the PC only very reluctantly make it to the Mac and vis-versa, because this requires you to not only know the other platform's programming language (which aren't always entirely different, but little changes here and there can make it absolutely frustrating) and this also means that you have to completely re-develop your program.

Alright, you already know what you're going to make, but it will still take a very long time. So until Sijmen has earnt $500,000 from Dimp (fine, perhaps less?) and people show enormous interest in Dimp on the PC (with the promise of even greater revenue) - leading to Sijmen just paying off 3-5 programmers to do it for him - I just don't see it happening (any time soon at least).

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

Technically, it's not difficult to write an application that works on Mac, Windows and Linux.

But consider this: a Windows application with Aqua buttons and blue scroll bars is still a Windows application. And this is exactly the problem you get with cross-platform programming kits: you can't get the most out of every platform.

And I'm just a Mac person. I love Xcode, I really like how Interface Builder works and (in my opinion) Cocoa totally rocks any desktop programming kit.

Lastly, any time spent on a Windows version is not spent on making the Mac version better. So, at least for now, I'll focus on the Mac smile

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

Ha! All the 'Pivot for Mac' threads come to nothing! Ha! Dimp for PC, sucks to Pivot big_smile

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

Impressed that we don't even have a full version out?

Edit: Do you mean you're impressed because it's not even the full version?

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

I think it's pretty clear that he means that it's impressed even though it's not finished yet smile

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

Actually without the use of commas, in the standard english language that translates to "I'm impressed that we don't even have a full version out yet", which doesn't make much sense. Not clear. wink

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

I think he means that he is impressed because people are already asking for Dimp on the PC even though the retail version hasn't come out yet smile

Re: Dimpleton on windows?

You mean Dimp on the PC. Also I'm quite aware of what he meant, but I just rather for people express themselves more accurately in the future.

What's more, there is no "Dimpleton Program". I thought I clarify this, because although we [yet again] understand what you're trying to say; Dimpleton is the official Dimp community.
